Mr. Derrell Maliak Andrews peacefully transitioned December 31, 2022, in Columbia, South Carolina

The family will be receiving friends at 104 Murraywood Road, Darlington, SC 29532. 

Celebration of life for Mr. Andrews will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 8, 2023, at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 3208 N. Governor Williams Highway, Darlington, South Carolina 29540. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. 

Public viewing will be 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. Saturday, January 7, 2023, at the funeral home.

Life Reflections

Derrell Maliak Andrews affectionately known as Rell was born on October 10, 1991, in Paterson, New Jersey. He was the son of Michelle Bacote and Larry Andrews. He departed this life on Saturday, December 31, 2022, in West Columbia, South Carolina.

Derrell was educated in the public schools of Florence School District 3, Darlington County Schools, and Prince George County Schools in Virginia.

Derrell was an active athlete who had a passion for playing basketball because he admired Kobe Bryant. He also played baseball and football at a younger age and loved the Pittsburgh Steelers. Rell liked to dress in the latest fashions and had a great sense of humor. He was a gentle soul who loved being with family and friends and was very protective of them all.

Derrell was employed with Full Force Pressure Washing under the supervision of Eric Grimmage. This was a job that he loved. He continued to work this job on his days off from Amazon in West Columbia, South Carolina, where he was also employed.

Derrell was preceded in death by his grandmother, Lucille Harrison and his beloved grandfather, Villo Bacote.

Derrell leaves to mourn and cherish his memories: his daughter, Genesis Hobson of Petersburg, Virginia; his loving mother, Michelle Bacote of Darlington S.C.  His Loving father, Larry (Norine) Andrews of Sebring, Florida; four sisters: Renaya Andrews of Paterson, New Jersey, Janiah Andrews of Darlington S.C, Tanisha Houser and Shanice Houser both of Miami, Florida; One brother, Rayshon (Julianne) Andrews of  Rota, Spain; Maternal grandmother, Lula Bacote of Paterson, New Jersey; aunts: Ruth Brown of Sebring, Florida, Dorothy Andrews, Janice (Harvey) Singletary,  and Donna Singletary all of Lake City S.C.,  Sandra Harrison of Paterson,  New Jersey,  and Patricia Bacote of Brooklyn, New York; uncles: Jimmy (Darcell) Bacote, Keith (Melva) Bacote both of  Paterson, New Jersey, Dennis (Joann)  Bacote of Durham, North Carolina, and Craig (Tomeka) Bacote of Houston, Texas; special friends (who were more like brothers) : Charles Moses, Dyquan Johnson, Marquis Jackson, Andre Wells, Fabian Stephens, Eddie Samuel, Daquan Wilds, Darius Gattison, Jacoby White, Daquan Bacote, Diwaun Bacote, Terrence Frazier, Tyree Mack and Taquan Mack; and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, cousins, and other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
