Mr. Horace “Hawk” Gattison of the Dovesville community in Darlington, SC peacefully transitioned Thursday, March 27, 2025.

The family will receive friends at the residence of his brother and sister-in-law, Eddie and Lillie Gattison, 2640 Nest Rd., Darlington, SC  29540. 

Celebration of life will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2025, at Round O Missionary Baptist Church, 1900 Society Hill Rd., Darlington, SC 29540. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Public viewing will be 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at the funeral home. 

A Profile Of Life

Horace “Hawk” Gattison, born on December 13, 1961, to the late Pinkney and Margaret Henderson Gattison, peacefully passed away on March 27, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. 

Affectionately known as “Hawk” by family and friends, he was a devoted husband, father, uncle, and friend. Hawk was dedicated to his family and deeply loved by all who knew him.

Hawk received his education in the Darlington County Public Schools, where he attended Rosenwald High School. Hawk was passionate about farming and took great pride in his work.
 

He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Shirley Gattison; ten embraced children: Patricia Graham, James (Londa) Graham, Eddie (Sheron) Graham, Frederick Graham, Kevin (LaToya) Brown, Willy (LaTisha) Brown, Derrick (Bridgett) Graham, Helena Graham, Rosevelt Graham, and Jimmy (Colisha) Graham; a host of grandchildren; two brothers, Eddie (Lillie) Gattison and Anthony (Kay) Gattison; three sisters, Viola Bruce, Deloris Gattison, and Loretta Gattison; six sisters-in-laws, Sadie Gattison, Verna Bishop, Ida (Aaron) Hough, Minnie Mae (Kenny) Lee, and Mary Graham; an aunt, Bertha Gattison; a special niece and caregiver, Patti (Jamel) Flemming; a dear friend, Mike Smith; as well as many nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
 

Hawk was preceded in death by seven brothers: Pinkney Gattison Jr., Alphonso Gattison, Isaiah Gattison, Robert Gattison, Perry Gattison, John Green, and Bobby Henderson; three sisters, Dorothy Gattison, Carrie Mae Graham, and Mary Gattison; and his embraced son, Mark George.

His memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
