Mr. Pierre E. Kelly peacefully transitioned Thursday, December 22, 2022.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 14, 2023, in the Chapel of S. L. Barno, Jr. Funeral Directors, 704 Washington St., Darlington, S.C. 29532.

The family will not be receiving friends at this time.

Pierre Esau Kelly, fondly known as “P”, was born in Florence County, South Carolina on October 13, 1980, the son of Samuel Esau and Bobbie Pierce Kelly. He entered into eternal rest on Thursday morning, December 22, 2022, after a short illness.

Pierre received his formal education in the Florence County Public Schools, graduating from Wilson High School in the class of 1998. He furthered his education through two years at Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama. He later received his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Francis Marion University in Florence, SC.

He served as a substitute teacher in school districts throughout South Carolina, including Chesterfield, Dillon, Florence, and Pageland Counties. Pierre supported his mother in various capacities throughout her latter career as an educator on a statewide level throughout school districts in South Carolina. He also worked as a driver for Red Top Cabs and most recently as a clerk at McCall Farms of Florence, SC. Pierre’s brilliancy in specific subjects and knowledge of computers enabled him to tutor students, repair electronics, and rebuild computers as side ventures.

His favorite pastimes were mixing music, comprising playlists, gaming, and spending time with friends online. Pierre was definitely the ‘computer guru’ of the Kelly family. Pierre presented to some people as a quiet soul and his parents’ big baby boy. While to others he was very outgoing, a caring presence, witty, and had a unique brand of wisdom. One would conclude, to know Pierre was to love him.

He was preceded in death by several paternal aunts and uncles, Carolyn Kelly, Elizabeth Kelly (Donald) Henderson, Margaret Kelly Gregg, Sarah Kelly (Joseph) Marks, and Vermella Kelly (Sidney) Smalls; more recently his maternal aunt, Cherry Pierce, in March 2022 for whom he finalized arrangements in the absence of his mother who suffered an unexpected stroke during the final week of planning.

Pierre leaves to cherish his loving memory: his parents, Samuel Esau Kelly Jr. and Dr. Bobbie Pierce Kelly; a brother, Kelvin S. Charles of Darlington, SC; a sister-in-law Yvonne Charles, a niece, two nephews, two aunts and uncles, Hattie (Willie) Smith of Roland, NC, and Vivian (Franklin) Wilds of Washington, DC; a host of maternal and paternal cousins, and many friends.
