Life Reflection

Annie Lee Coe was born in Darlington, South Carolina on April 30, 1928.  She quietly left this world in Dallas, Texas on August 27, 2022.  Darlington County Schools was where she received her education from Cherry Grove School and graduated from Mayo High School.  Cherry Grove Baptist Church was where she was raised spiritually., then joined Bethel A.M.E. Church after marriage. For years, she worked as a waitress at The Lunch Box.  Later, she became a nutritionist for Clemson County Extension Agency.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Inez Stephens, her husband, Marion Coe, Jr. and her brother, Earl Stevenson; four of her children:  Marilyn Coe, Julia Ann Alston, Marion Coe, III, and Earl S. Coe.

Living survivors are her children:  Dr. Cynthia Coe and Vera Coe; grandchildren: Julius Alston III, Mark (Shonda) Coe, Jonathan Alston, Brandon Coe, Jada C. Alston, and Marion Coe IV; two great grandchildren:  Lauren B. Alston and Julia Alston.  Mrs. Coe had a special love in her heart for her surviving daughter-in-law, Linda B. Coe and son-in-law, Julius Alston, Jr.  Other loved survivors are Braxton Rogers, Dontavius Hughes, and a sister-in-law, Willa Coe (Philadelphia, PA), along with a host of family and friends.

Annie Lee Coe was a fearless woman, who tamed adversity like it was a summer breeze. By nature, she was a talkative being who never met a stranger.  Even if she did not know it, you learned independence and tolerance.  Mrs. Coe was a hard worker and passed that down to her children.

Cooking, gardening, and showing off her children and grandchildren’s talents were her passions. In her fading years, she still had the gift of gab; humorous and unbridled.  Annie Lee Coe, you will always be loved and missed by your family and friends.
