Life Reflections

BETTY LOU (TERRY)THOMAS, wife of Nathaniel Thomas, Jr. of 2633 Southborough Road, Darlington, South Carolina, passed on and moved into the waiting loving arms of her mother, mother-in-law, and GOD on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at the McLeod Hospice House in Florence, SC. Betty was born in Oxford, NC on January 30, 1940 as the eldest of six children of her parents, Norman Terry and Margaret (Wilkerson) Terry. Betty grew up in Oxford where she graduated from high school then moved to New Jersey where she met then married Nathaniel Thomas, Jr. in 1964. The couple lived in Newark and East Orange, New Jersey while Betty worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital in various specialized nursing are as for twenty years. In 1980, the couple realized one of their dreams when they built their new home in Darlington, SC.

Betty transferred inside of the VA Hospital system in 1980 to Columbia, SC where she continued to work for the VA until 1997, another 17 years. When she retired, Betty moved her mother, Margaret, from Oxford NC into the couple's home in Darlington where Betty cared for her until h r mother's passing in 2009. Betty was also helpful in the comfort and care of her mother-in-law, Stalvey Thomas of Darlington, SC until her death in 2010.

Betty is survived by Nathaniel Thomas, Jr., her husband of almost 58 years· one aunt, Emma Harris (Oxford, NC); one sister, Patsy (Terry) Morgan (Creedmoore, NC); one brother, Sandy Terry (Oxford, NC); a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews from Oxford, NC; South Carolina in-laws: Eloise Thomas (Timmonsville); Roosevelt Thomas (Darlington); Liston Thomas (Darlington); Vernita Thomas (Florence); Frances Irene Thomas (Florence); Lindberg and Gladys Thomas (Florence); Jettie Kay Thomas (New York, NY); Jo Ann Thomas Rogers (Florence); and Theron Tim Thomas (Darlington); and a host of South Carolina nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.

Betty Lou Thomas loved to sew and garden, and she loved her animals including as many yard cats as would come and all of the birds that she loved to feed. Betty loved children especially and love to eat good food and laugh heartily. She enjoyed her home and simple country living.... sewing, cooking for Na, and digging and planting in her garden surrounded by her collection of stuffed animals inside her home and her yard cats and the sounds of the chirping birds outside.

Betty was a strong but kind and gentle woman who fiercely loved her life and those people in her life. She gave from her heart to all of those who needed, and she will be forever remembered as the kind, reverent, no non sense Betty that was loved and respected by all who really knew her.

Betty Lou Thomas made her mark in this life through all of her kindnesses and assistance to those she cared for and now she has gone on to be cared for in heaven.

We love you, Betty Lou!!!!!!!!!!
