Mrs. Jannie Mae Tillman of Bronx, New York peacefully transitioned Friday, July 22, 2022 at McLeod Regional Medical Center.

Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Tillman will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2022 at Salem Baptist Church 902 South Main St. Darlington, SC 29532, interment will follow at Faith Memorial Gardens, Rogers Road, Darlington, S.C. 29532 

Public Viewing will be 12:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at the funeral home.

Mrs. Jannie Mae Tisdale Tillman Mrs. Jannie Mae Tisdale Tillman was called to eternal rest peacefully at the Mcleod Regional Medical Center on July 22, 2022.

Jannie Mae was the youngest of seven children born to the late Wash and Rebecca Ann Barr Washington Tisdale on May 22, 1923, in Salters, South Carolina. Her sibling, Ben Washington, Flossie W. Jackson, Lucille T. Fluitt, Annie T. Dukes, Maggie Dukes, and Jeffery Tisdale preceded her in death.

At an early age she was married to the late Gus Alston Sr, and from this union they had three children. Their son Gus Alston Jr. proceeded her in death. As well as her great grandson Thomas James Powell Spencer. 

Jannie Mae did domestic work and worked on the farm for many years, she later moved to New York and continued to do domestic and factory work until she decided to further her education. She attended Allied Health Care a division of Manhattan Medical and Dental Assistant School. She earned a certificate in the field of Child/Geriatric Care, she worked in that field until her retirement.

Jannie Mae was an active member of St. Mark United Methodist Church located in Harlem, New York for more than fifty years.

She was a member of the Stewardess Board for many years and when her health began to decline, she still would always make her way up to the Stewardess section during services.

Jannie Mae also married the late Bennie Tillman.

She leaves to behind to mourn her passing two daughters, Dorothy A. Spencer, and Virginia A. Williams of Darlington, South Carolina. Four grandchildren; Samson Thomas Spencer Jr. of Darlington South Carolina, Dawn R. Williams of Bronx, New York, Wendy (Warren) McQueen of Darlington, South Carolina, and Kevin Williams of Bronx, New York. Two great grandchildren; Samson Thomas Spencer, III of Lithonia, Georgia and Regan Elizabeth McQueen of Darlington, South Carolina As well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
